Strategic appointment enhances Franklin Templeton’s UK institutional footprint
London, 02 March 2026 – Franklin Templeton1, a leading global asset manager, is pleased to announce the appointment of Julian Lyne as Head of UK Institutional, effective 2nd March 2026. Reporting to Andrew Ashton, Head of UK, he will be responsible for shaping and executing Franklin Templeton’s UK institutional strategy.
In this role, Julian will oversee relationships across the full spectrum of institutional channels including family offices, endowments, local government pension schemes (LGPS), defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pensions/master trusts, insurance clients, and consultant relations. He will partner closely with the broader distribution, product and marketing teams to drive sales activity and develop innovative solutions, leveraging the breadth and depth of the firm’s investment capabilities across public and private markets.
Andrew Ashton commented: “Julian’s appointment to lead our UK Institutional business comes at an important time for the pensions industry and will be central to advancing our strategic growth plans in the UK. As schemes reassess how they deliver long‑term outcomes they are seeking strategic partners who can combine deep global capabilities with the ability to deliver tailored solutions. Julian’s extensive experience, deep knowledge of the UK institutional market and regulatory landscape and long-standing client relationships make him exceptionally well‑placed to help our clients navigate this period of change.”
Julian Lyne added: "Institutional investors in the UK are operating through one of the most structurally important periods of change in decades. Regulatory reform is altering the shape of pension provision and investment governance, while portfolio models continue to evolve toward blended and alternative strategies. At the same time, compressed flows and increased fee scrutiny are sharpening the industry’s competitive dynamics. Layered onto this is a macro landscape influenced by geopolitical uncertainty, all of which demand fresh thinking around risk, liquidity, and long‑term outcomes. I’m excited to work with Andrew and the team to deepen our engagement with clients and help them capture the opportunities emerging across the investment landscape.”
Julian will join Franklin Templeton from The Pensions Regulator, where he was the Interim Executive Director of Market Oversight. In this role, he oversaw the workplace DB and DC pension schemes, including Master trusts and Super funds, and drove strategic initiatives to enhance pension savers' outcomes. Prior to this, Julian spent a decade at Newton Investments (part of BNY Mellon) as Chief Commercial Officer. In his earlier career, he held leadership roles at F&C Investments and HSBC Investments, where he managed global consultant relations and developed key institutional products. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of London.
