Templeton Global Climate Change Fund Receives Three-Star FNG-Siegel Label 2023
Frankfurt – November 25, 2022 – Franklin Templeton1 announced yesterday that the Templeton Global Climate Change Fund2 (the Fund) received the three-star FNG (Forum für Nachhaltige Geldanlagen e.V.) label, an independent and non-profit organisation in Germany setting quality standards for sustainable investment funds in German-speaking countries. The fund had first been awarded the FNG label with two stars in November 2019. The three-star label was presented to Franklin Templeton on 24 November 2022 at an award ceremony in Frankfurt.
Craig Cameron, Portfolio Manager of the Templeton Global Climate Change Fund, commented: “We are delighted to receive the three-star FNG label in recognition of our investment approach and strong focus on the transition to a lower carbon economy. We currently find long-term opportunities in the materials sector, where the fund is significantly overweight relative to its benchmark. There is strong demand for materials needed to transition to a low carbon economy, where companies have the ability to differentiate competitively through decarbonising production.”
The FNG label sets standards and provides investors with guidance on integrity, quality and the diligence of the funds’ sustainable investment strategy in German-speaking countries. According to FNG’s quality standards, successfully certified funds follow a highly professional and transparent sustainable investment approach. Its implementation has been verified by an independent assessment of the University of Hamburg and supervised by an external committee.
According to FNG, the strategy received the highest rating (three stars), and the Fund stood out for its institutional credibility, product standards and portfolio-focus among other criteria.
Peter Gorynski, Director Territorial Retail Sales for Germany at Franklin Templeton, added: "We are seeing increased interest in this fund given its transparent and disciplined investment process with focus on value stocks. In terms of mitigating climate change, our clients appreciate how the Fund wants to have a positive impact through its holdings and how the strategy complements their sustainable portfolios with value-style-oriented stocks.”
The Fund combines Templeton’s fundamental value investing with robust, in-house climate change research. This approach is rooted in Templeton’s belief that buying undervalued stocks is the best strategy for maximising long-term returns and that the world must transition to a lower carbon future — and the most resilient and sustainable companies over time will be those able to successfully transition.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) analysis is integrated into Templeton Global Equity Group’s overall stock selection process, and only such approved stocks are eligible for inclusion in the Fund. Lead portfolio manager Craig Cameron, with 12 years of industry experience, is backed by a portfolio team including research analysts and ESG specialists. This group is additionally supported by the full breadth and depth of the Templeton Global Equity Group.
